From the Streets to the Social Life by Lucky Leash

Clio and Alex

Clio, who is “a bit of a runner”, will gladly dart after a butterfly or dash after a fish if given the chance.

Described by her mom, Alex, as being “still very much a puppy”, two-year-old Clio lived on the streets with other dogs for the first eight months of her life. It is through a local rescue called Hope Beyond Borders that she found her forever home with mom Alex in our beautiful town of Nelson.

Alex had lost the family dog, a fifteen-year-old lab, and she thought that it would be a long time before she would be ready for another dog. This was, of course, until a friend that works with Hope Beyond Borders presented her with a photo of Clio. Instantly, Alex knew.

Sweet, beautiful Clio, with her cream-colored coat, bright eyes, and temperate nature, had found her forever home. Now, Alex can’t imagine life without her.

Although Clio has meshed with her whole family, she’s a bit of a “mama’s girl”.

“She’d crawl into my skin if she could,” laughs Alex.

Alex muses that, when Clio lived on the streets, her only friends were other dogs. This is why, in true “mama knows best” fashion, Alex sought a space where she could socialize Clio during the week while she and the family were busy with work. Clio is an early attendee of Lucky Leash – an “OG”, so to speak – and, from the jump, she thrived there.

Being surrounded by other dogs all day makes Clio feel good; she feels like she’s part of a pack. In the long run, this has made her feel more confident and comfortable. The exposure to the wonderful staff at Lucky Leash has also been a boon, making her feel secure and safe around people. For Alex, the best feeling comes from picking her girl up from Lucky Leash at the end of the day. That’s because she’s as all dogs should be: happy (and tired).
